I'm re-reading the series now for the first time in years. Egwene has always been a weak character.

Maybe not in EotW, perhaps even TGH. She had lots of potential in the beginning.
But after that she became a petulant child. Then she became a petulant-child-turned-rebel-Amyrlin. And now, as you say, she's a superhero who can do no wrong and has everything fall into place nice and easily for her.
From a literary standpoint, she's a character gone wrong, with not enough real depth or personality to sustain her over such a long series. Which is too bad...she could have been so much more.
Elayne is much the same way, I find. Lots of potential, all for naught.
