She said"much" influence. fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 07/12/2009 02:50:35 AM

That Sarene or the other AS don't have much influence on Elaida, especially in the current situation. And there is no sensible way that Semirhage's cooperation would make the AS more able to persuade Elaida to lessen Semirhage's punishments, since Elaida doesn't know about it at all.

The Oath is really a joke, if it allows such false statements to deceive someone else.

I agree that the oaths are a joke. It is not a matter of whether one speaks the truth, but of whether it is perceived as the truth. Perhaps, when Sarene left the Tower, she felt that Elaida could still be influenced. She has been gone long enough not to know the state of affairs at present. To think that members of the embassy might have some (even if it is tiny) influence over the Amyrlin who sent them does not have to be a lie. I think the oath against lying has been abused sufficiently on screen that I find it believable that she could say this and not be BA. Clearly, it is a load of crap, but she isn't the first AS to say something that falls into that category.
