RJ's comment is not on Rahvin being surprised that Rand can Travel. Instead, Rahvin is surprised that Rand knows he can Travel a short distance without knowing the ground.
The implication is that this is a more advanced skill, that Rahvin did not expect Rand to have mastered. RJ does not say at all that Rahvin is surprised that Rand can Travel. The emphasis is on the issue of Rand not knowing the ground.
Does Traveling TO a place make you "know" that place?
