The Taint broke down the barrier between his current life and past lives Ryan Send a noteboard - 21/12/2009 04:07:41 PM
When a soul is reborn they are unconscious of what's gone before. Its kind of a coping mechanism, and thus why Birgitte is loosing memories of her past lives. Rand, is a special case, and the Taint broke that barrier down. Rand was remembering things from the Age of Legends. Lews Therin, was a way of coping with these unexpected memories.

Moiraine gives us an answer in her letter to Rand in tFoH. When she tells of her choices, and about Lanfear capturing Rand and Rand calling himself Lews Therin. The madness was coming. It was just the outcome that would change.
The past is just that, the past. You can only truly live by looking to the future!
