Linking, and especially mixed linking, amplifies anything with the One Power greatly. We've known this since the beginning of the series. Nynaeve comments in KoD that even something as simple as burning up trollocs with Fire is much stronger when men and women link than with saidar alone. I don't see how that well-known trend refutes individual trends in gateway size.
