It's probably not more gross than the Eelfinn taking his eye, and it fits better with the Prophecies, which indicate that Mat will actively sacrifice his eye, and & Mat's thoughts about the Finn having a link to him, maybe even seeing through his eyes.
You know, I don't get how it would be a bargain with the Finns. If it would take away their ability to see through his eyes, then it wouldn't make sense.
And if this is supposed to be a sacrifice/bargain that he contemplates, then it can't just be an indirect result. That's how I read it anyways.
For example, if he says "I want you out of my head" and the Finns say "ok" and take out his eyes, then it doesn't make it a bargain to me (though the Finn seem to find that to be a fair bargain). To me the knowledge (informed connect) is an essential part of the issue.
After all, he is supposed to have his eye on a scale, which shows judgment and thought, not accident.
