Apparently the madness caused by the taint can only be cured by the TP. RJ said:

Interesting... Nynaeve would NOT like hearing that.
But it's still possible that Rand could have healed it in some non-power-using manner (finding the love/light/Creator inside himself?), or in a darker way, by subconciously reusing the True Power (which he now has a link to) to remove the madness.
