Why does Ethinielle have to die or be deposed? This guy is her Royal Historian, and the text says so quite plainly!
As for who has been there... Rand himself was seen in the Library at Chachin (who knows, his ta'veren presence may have revealed the fragments to the Historian) in WH. What if he goes again? Or what if Ashmainelle goes again to collect the Tower's tribute, and is told of it?
Or what if Ethenielle knows and carries these fragments with her?
