This brings up a question I have been wanting to post for a while -- who are the leads, and who are the supporting characters? I actually think Elayne has a much larger role than Aviendha -- for many books she galavanted around as Nynaeve's partner, and seemed to be shaping up to be a rival with Egwene for lead female. Aviendha, who I adore as a charcter, has had what -- only 2 actual POVs? And those seem awkward and stiff compared to what I imagine she is like.

Several reasons:
She's the female character who has been unattached/independent of other main characters for the majority of the series. She's been on her own since LOC. As such, she has been set up as a "female counterpart" to Rand. Meaning she's been through many similar experiences as Rand etc...
Comparatively, Nynaeve has had far fewer POVs and has never really had an independent story line. She's always been attached to others in the main cast in one way or another. While certainly the "lead" in most cases, she tends to be part of an ensemble cast rather than being the center of the story herself.
