Rand's feelings for Moiraine after "she died" are twisted. He started putting her on a pedestal, in part out of misplaced guilt about her death. She had also one major quality the others around him had not: she was no longer there! Had Moiraine remained, she most likely would have ended up in much the same spot as Egwene or Cadsuane in Rand's eyes. Instead, she wasn't there when he became really confrontational with nearly everyone, instead he has idolized her, forgetting what he really thought of her when she was still around.
