Tam said Kari died, and so far I haven't seen any reason to doubt him. Especially since everyone else in the village corroborates this implying she received a regular burial and died from an illness.

Why should we trust what Tam says!! He could swear all he wants, it's just words. Untill we get a POV of someone who saw it happen thinking about Kari actually being dead then it has to be taken that she is still active.
