That was my first reaction when I read it for the first time and I still hold to that. Asmodean knew who she was, and was surprised to see her, of course. Moiraine balefired him and left his last words hanging. It was one of the wishes the snake/fox people granted her and now she has to wait to be rescued by Mat. I will be disappointed if it doesn't turn out that way.
