But me, I've never really cared that this guy got a knife slipped through his fifth and sixth rib on his right by a sudden downward lunge. Or whatever.

To me, it's like the middle of a combat (and therefore generally a tense scene) and the authour just veers into an uninteresting description. Imagine if RJ had interrupted Dumai's Wells to describe the clothing of all involved.

He didn't describe everyones clothing? I kind of remember Perrin and Loial fighting back to back and RJ describing Loial's turned down boots. lol just kidding.
