I'm not sure but wouldn't the sleeper in a link without control just be able to contribute spirit since its the only power a person can weave while asleep.
Yeah, that's what I think too. Tough the real question is weather will he be able to fall asleep, and retain the Source. Not to mention Sleep Channeling. Something like that Mad fellow did when he destroyed his entire village in sleep.

If I recall correctly, each 1st in the group will appoint a second. I am guessing that if something should happen to the person in control of the circle, then power authority would be transferred to that person so designated.
As to falling asleep and contributing power: the spirit contribution sounds likely. This is probably similar to being in a link and going too far away. If you travel too far away from the first, you're still in the link, you are just not contributing.
