Mat, sure. Mat is always going on about how he's being dragged into things against his will and deserves pity for his poor, unfortunate fate. Rand? No. He accepts whatever happens and just lumbers on. In fact, he seems almost incapable of pitying himself, even when he genuinely deserves it, he just goes back to saving the world. Which is actually part of the problem.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
