and it's not as if it serves some purpose like composing a total list on which everybody has five votes. Lyringlas merely wanted to hear about good British books he hadn't read yet.


The number in of itself may be meaningless but choosing a number and having people adhere to that number is not meaningless. It forces internal ranking. It forces total subjective choice. It's quite interesting to watch who can't even do that.
