I've thought for a good while now that the Hobbit quote should be expanded.

It currently says:

But the full quote is much more poignant:
"If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell!"
Of course, the downside of the expanded quote is that it spoils more, but seriously, this is the Hobbit, it's been published for over seventy years.
