Jacob's review of The Passage was rather positive (see link), so if that sounds at all appealing to you, you should probably go for it. The Larsson book wasn't bad, but not really anything special - it's the first book in a trilogy, but the story is largely self-contained, and mostly just a typical detective/thriller.
