I mean, don't get me wrong - I plugged through GotM, and loved the following two novels; but the last two or three books (I'm on Dust of Dreams now) feel like the characters spend half their time soliloquizing about the emptiness and meaninglessness of life and existence (Toll the Hounds was really bad for this, especially with the Tiste Andii kiddies). He throws in so many random characters from random tribes that it's nearly impossible to keep track of them all, and they all kind of blend together so it's hard to care. I'm really glad that DoD is revisiting the Beddicts and the Fourteenth, but the other three-quarters of the novel is the same way. At this point, it's beginning to feel like I'm just reading to find out what happens at the end.
I've just finished Reapers Gale, which I enjoyed (although I think it benefits from being able to read it in a couple of days) and I just started Toll the Hounds. I was thinking "Hmmm, the Tiste Andii go on a bit" so it doesn't get better?
