30,000 volumes in one house, 20,000 in another. Oh, and he's on the record as saying that too often visitors admire the number and never think about the possibilities inherent in discovering something new in a book not yet read.

I like that view, especially when I see so many people complaining about their "to be read" piles being more than they could manage in a year. I'd hate to be out of new discoveries to read.
