I was worried that they'd miss a lot of those. Jacob Send a noteboard - 07/09/2010 02:30:11 PM
I'm about to start a reread of the actually released novel. I was interested in seeing if they caught a lot of those errors in the final edit. There were a lot in the ARC.

The book was fantastic but it had some jarring editing errors. This has to be the worst edited book I have ever read. For instance, one sentence started "Dalinar He..." Now this mistake is totally understandable. Sanderson had already established that it was Dalinar earlier in the paragraph. So he must have just forget to delete Dalinar at the beginning of the sentence. But to not catch it while editing? Insane! Who was proofreading this book? There are way too many errors like this that just totally took me out of the story. It's bizarre really.

Sadly, it's not that uncommon in larger books to see those sorts of errors these days. i don't think proofreaders sit and comb through a text with a red pen like they used to. A lot of those errors probably passed through an electronic proofreader and didn't didn't get picked up by those passing through text more quickly.

The book was engrossing enough, that while I noted the errors, it didn't really disrupt the feel and flow of the entire narrative.
