There are lots of good reason to buy and e-reader but the idea that doing so will save the planet is not really one of them. Books probably make up a tiny amount of the paper you use.

For the most part we grow forest to make paper not cut them down. I am not sure about across the pond but here paper mills plant and harvest most of the wood they use. They might buy some but they are willing to pay so little for it that they only get trees that were cut down for other reasons.
