If you're getting Gibson, make sure you get the Sprawl Trilogy. Joel Send a noteboard - 24/10/2010 06:41:26 PM
Thank you for your suggestions.

I have some spare money so am going to go book shopping. Not that we have the space for more books...

If only so you can make Camilla read it. It's cyberpunk, not steampunk, but still awesome, and prescient considering when it was written.

And, of course, without the success of those stories, Gibson might never have been in position to collaborate with Sterling on The Difference Engine, and steampunk might not exist.

It's apparently Steampunk month. Or fortnight, depending on which publisher you look at. Rebekah - 22/10/2010 11:08:05 PM 852 Views
And some enthusiast is apparently trying to build Babbage's original designs for a computer. Legolas - 22/10/2010 11:23:09 PM 820 Views

The Science Museum did one of Babbage's machines, yes, but not the big one. Legolas - 23/10/2010 02:15:13 PM 934 Views

It would seem The Difference Engine is essential Steampunk reading; it largely spawned the genre. Joel - 24/10/2010 06:33:04 PM 715 Views
I will definitely try to hunt The Sprawl down then. *NM* Kallichore - 24/10/2010 09:27:43 PM 367 Views
Not high art, maybe, but well written, well paced and thought provoking. Joel - 24/10/2010 10:48:42 PM 711 Views
