Re: Trelawny, Ogden, Gaunt, Ron, Hermione, Ron and Harry Legolas Send a noteboard - 26/10/2010 11:56:59 PM
Ogden: I like him. He is to the point, respectful but firm. He reminds me a little of Mr Weasley.

Quite similar, yes. The backbone of the Ministry, one might say - folks that don't look like much, are easily overlooked by the high and mighty or those looking for flashiness (I'm looking at you, Horace Slughorn), but pull their weight and get things done when it comes down to it.
Mr Gaunt: am I the only one who flashes to American extremist rightwingers who think the government is out to get them and will defend their property against intruders, often with a shotgun (yes, I am basing this entirely on movies and television series), when Ogden meets the Gaunts?

You're not the only one.
Ron: his reaction to Hermione explaining the allure of Harry is wonderfully sweet. ``I'm tall''.

And incoherent. I suppose that's what makes it sweet. :P
Hermione: I love that she confounded Cormac. It is true love.

It's cheating is what it is. Just think how she'd have reacted if Harry or Ron had done something like that during an exam. But I guess Hermione never could take Quidditch as seriously as it should be taken. ;)
Ron: it can't be easy for him to be excluded by Slughorn. It is bound to bring up all his old insecurities.

Indeed. Slughorn is really another case of Dumbledore's political hiring decisions being less than ideal for his students - even though he's competent enough in his subject.

Also: Harry is at least thoughtful enough to notice and plan his Quidditch trainings during the Slug Club suppers. Though since that deprives Hermione of both him and Ginny, her only two friends in the Slug Club, it's not entirely a win-win situation precisely. Proving once again that Ron still has the priority over Hermione for him.
Harry: it is disturbing that Harry is hexing Filch. He knows he cannot defend himself.

It is, yes. Rather too much like his father, but his father at least hexed people who could hex him back (not that they did, one supposes).
