Re: Draco can dissemble rather well, just like his parents. Camilla Send a noteboard - 29/10/2010 09:00:36 PM
Regarding writing: Rowling is still interpreting for us. Dumbledore's summary of the scene (Voldemort's reaction to the name "Tom", his self-sufficiency and lack of friends, and the magpipe tendency -- it's as if she's worried we'll forget that he is who he would grow up to be.

Well, or for Harry. He might really need the explanations even if the reader didn't, and let's not forget these books are read enthusiastically by 10-year old readers and even younger.

You are probably right.

Luna's comment that Scrimgeour is a vampire is insane on the surface, but the sentiment is quite accurate. He is preying on people he should not prey on in order to keep himself in power.

I guess, yeah. Sort of like the gnome-killer thing for Fudge.

Yes.

The conversation between Snape and Draco is riddled with plot development. A red herring in Draco's assertion that he had nothing to do with the necklace (showing that Snape is not in his confidence, if nothing else), but also that he is definitely hiding something (the occlumency -- interesting that Draco could learn it when Harry could not). And Snape pretending to be on his side (where would I have been if I had not known how to act). How Malfoy is aided by Crabbe and Goyle (and the more subtle clue that Snape is sabotaging that).

Harry can't control his temper or feelings, Draco definitely can, so no surprise that he can learn it. What surprises me more is that Bellatrix can teach it. And Malfoy's "other people, better people" are people outside the school, including that monstrous Fenrir Greyback, it would seem he really only uses his lackeys inside the school.

Well, Bellatrix may be able to teach it without being good at it herself.

Sanguini: I like him as decoration. The edging towards the group of girls and being handed a pasty.

It's also quite refreshing to have vampires be a tiny footnote in wizarding society, rather than dominating the story. ;)

You can say that again.
