Re: Mr Weasley, Lupin, Fleur, Harry and Scrimgeour
Seriana Sedai Send a noteboard - 31/10/2010 09:07:19 PM
Mr Weasley: I like the glimpse we get of him in Ron's reminiscence from when he was a kid and the twins tried to get him to make the unbreakable vow. We know he loves his children, but I love it when the Weasleys are startled into a violent reaction for some reason (that is probably why I like Mrs Weasley's comment to Bellatrix, which we'll discuss in book 7 unless I miss my guess).
I love this bit. Especially when Ron says Fred doesn't think his left buttock has ever been the same. I laugh every time.
Lupin: the voice of reason. He is quite right, of course. Trusting Snape is down to trusting Dumbledore's judgement.
It's a shame that things turn out the way they do, because Lupin is right here. I feel sorry for Snape when he loses his ties to the Order when Dumbledore dies, but there is really no way around it. This is just what I always think of when I read this bit, even though it really makes no sense.
It is interesting to read about his experience with other werewolves. WE are obviously inclined to take Harry's view and think of it as a minor problem that does not affect the person Lupin himself (also, "many people were under the impression that I owned a badly behaved rabbit" had me giggling), but to a great extent his problem is the same as that of the giants. Vodlemort pretends to give werewolves freer reign, while his ideology all the while is repressive.
Makes me think about the next book when Greyback doesn't have the Mark despite his service, and how Greyback is such a devoted servant but they send Bellatrix after Tonks because of Lupin. Does Greyback just not care because he gets to have all the bloody fun he wants as part of Voldemort's entourage?
Lupin's reaction when mentioning Greyback is subtle, but speaks volumes.
Fleur: she is surprisingly socially clueless. She really seems to have no social antennas (antennae?). Perhaps it comes with being so beautiful: she has never had to develop the skills?
I wonder if it is something like this. I can't believe how clueless she is during that passage.
Percy: he is just there because Scrimgeor needed an admittance ticket to the house, isn't he? For some reason I remember it as him arriving penitent, but that isn't what happens at all! I am glad the twins and Ginny pelted him with parsnip.
I love how they all took credit for it! Percy is such an ass. An easily manipulated ass.
Harry: I love his scene with Scrimgeour. It is one of his best. He is what he should be. Doing the right thing, thinking straight.
One of the places where Harry really gets it all on his own and does a great job. I love him here. And how he leads Scrimgeour right into the trap he sets. It's a great exchange.
And the scene in Dumbledore's office later on, when he tells him what he said, is lovely. I am so glad that happened before the end of the book.
Yes. I'm sure Harry is happy on some level to have verbally expressed his devotion to Dumbledore. And I love how touched Dumbledore is by this.
Scrimgeour: ack. Why is the wizarding world not better at choosing competent leaders? Also, it really is quite shocking that a woman who abused children last year (and is clearly insane) is still working for the ministry.
He seems so much better at the beginning, and now we have this. It's sad. And I also can't believe Umbridge is still there. Maybe she managed to cover up a lot of what happened at the school? I know why she is there in the next administration, but I don't see her as having a part of Scrimgeour's administration. She must have everyone fooled about how useful she is.
