the problem is most good poets are dead and dead people tend to fail at marketing random thoughts Send a noteboard - 08/11/2010 06:44:18 PM
Do you think that poetry deserves a wider readership?

I think there are people who do not read who may like it. I really don't think deserve has anything to do with it.

Do bookstores with no designated poetry section but entire shelves full of Ayn Rand and Bibles make you angry?

no. How much new really good poetry is there? If my library didn't have a poetry section I might object but stores are in for the money.

If you had a beautiful little bookstore and could stock it with whatever you wanted, wouldn't you have a section devoted to poetry?

Not if it didn't sell because I would want to keep my store open. It is hard enough to keep small bookstores open without adding vanity sections.

Why is poetry important?

most poetry is rubbish and isn't important at all. Great poetry speaks to soul and turns emotions into words.

Also:

What are your favorite poems?

mostly poems about death.

Not waving but Drowning is great a poem. Do Not Go gentle Into that good Night has always been a favorite.

Who are your favorite poets?

Mostly ones I read in coolege like Thomas and Stevie Smith. I probably should read more on my own because I did enjoy some of it when I was forced to read it.

How did you discover them?

Lit class

Why should I read them? I am compiling a christmas list, and need to know.

I would guess you already have them if not try Google, they are free. Another reason why book stores don't have poetry sections.

I think it's rather pointless, to be honest. - 09/11/2010 10:54:17 PM 989 Views
