In which country? Camilla Send a noteboard - 14/06/2011 02:59:04 PM
I am constructing a course on Dickens, and so started wondering what I could expect people to have read. I would therefore be very happy if you could reply even if you haven't read anything.
What on earth would possibly explain getting through 4 years of any high school worth a damn without having to read at least one thing by him?

I am sure that depends to a great extent on cultural context.

Have you read any Dickens?

What have you read?
Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, Christmas Carol, that I am sure of.

Have you heard of any (other) Dickens novels?

Why have you not read them?
Yes, and because he gets paid by the word, which makes them a little too much like work.

Which ones?

And he was not paid by the word. Common misconception. He published in numbers, which is not the same thing. He would not get paid more if he exceeded the number of pages.
