In Westeros, males inherit the throne ahead of females, especially in the direct line. Aerys was also killed before Aegon's alleged death, so the throne would have passed from him to Aegon 'automatically' if you go by the law. Aegon therefore would be the rightful king, and his claim would trump Auntie Daenerys. It would have even trumped Viserys (and that would have been awesome scene in the alternate-reality version of GoT).
Of course, Dany has the dragons, and Aegon has to try to convince people he's the real deal. His story sounds a bit convenient.
