His novels are entertaining. Of course, my ideas about genre fiction are well-known here.
On a side note, even having read over 600 pages in Der Zauberberg, I'm still almost 400 pages from the end. It's a bit frustrating. I need to pick shorter books for a while.

I haven't yet attempted to read a work of that length in German, not even with an English translation to assist me. I did re-read it in translation earlier this year and found it to be even more excellent than I recalled (I first read it in 1997).
Have you given any thought to any 2012 reading goals? I'm thinking about dedicating the year to translating a story collection that should become public domain at the beginning of 2013, so I might not be reading as much then.
