The first and only book of his I've read so far was My Name is Red, which was certainly far from bad, or indeed rather good, but still disappointed me (in a fashion rather similar to how my visit of the Topkapi palace in Istanbul, the setting for parts of the novel, disappointed me... interesting connection). Not enough to keep me from giving him a second chance, though, so I might take up your suggestion.

I actually read far less Turkish and Arab writers than I should. Partially due to my hopelessly optimistic resolution of reading them in the original eventually - but the result is still that I've read very few of the seminal works in either literature, in any language.
