And yes, it is the right word. Although we would rarely use it like that, actually (I am only now realising). Hmmm. It is strange how everything becomes interesting and worth looking into when there is stuff I have to do.
We rarely use the equivalent word like that either (except as a joke, or as a private joke between child and parent). It's the kind of word we'll use when talking of them out of their presence, but almost never to address them/her. That's not as true of the French though (socially we deal with our respective children quite differently)
