Just because I had started learning some Greek (got distracted by my actual studies), but there didn't appear to be NEAR the extraneous pronounciation marks. I don't know the technical term. Things like umlauts and accents. Those. The Greek I was reading was just letters.
It's to Modern Greek what early Middle English would be to contemporary Modern English. Pronunciations are different and the grammar is a bit more elaborate, but that's about it, if I recall.
