I studiously avoided Fonvizin. Tom Send a noteboard - 31/01/2012 08:37:04 PM
I know that Nedorosol' is something that one of my professors went crazy over, but everyone else couldn't stand it, either aesthetically or in terms of impact. I thought it was best to leave out.

Taras Bul'ba was included, in that it is one of the four stories in Mirgorod (the others being Starosvetskie Pomeshchiki, Kak Ivan Ivanovich Possorilsya s Ivanom Nikiforovichom and Viy).

Dubrovsky is an interesting story, but it felt like there was something missing, like the story was supposed to be longer and was finished quickly, cutting a novel down to a novella.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

– Procopius

Ummaka qinnassa nīk!
