I'm finding it strange that they're getting so excited about a book that's been out for a year.
The publishing industry is odd.

But unless I'm mistaken, both Canongate and Viking are imprints of the same global company, but with distribution arrangements that leads to one territory (in this case, the US) getting a year's head start on the publication within that territory. I believe outside of importers and international online stores like Amazon, the book wouldn't be available in UK/Irish stores.
The same thing has been done in reverse in the US in regards to Steven Erikson's books, for example.
