I even usually like the movie adaptations of them, and I can't explain why. I hate the Brontes - that is to chick lit what chick lit is to literature generally - but Jane Austen is wonderful.

I'm indifferent re: the Bronte sisters. I've read several Austens though, and liked them all. I definitely think that even though they're dealing with chick-lit topics, the sauciness makes up for the sappy crap.
