I've only read the translation of course, and it was almost ten years ago. I think I would get more out of it if I read it again with a decade of additional experience behind me (I was only 19 at the time), but even then I enjoyed it immensely, both for the narrative and for the themes and ideas that lurked beneath the surface. So all I really want to say is that I echo your recommendation.
