Two weeks ago, yeah. Legolas Send a noteboard - 13/09/2012 08:20:45 PM
I was pretty busy and only checking online intermittently.

See link.
BTW, based on your mention of it I bought Orlando Figues' book on the Crimean War.

Ah, let me know what you think. He had some thoughts about it that sounded like they might be one interpretation but not necessarily the only one, about the Russophobia in Europe at the time and the mentality of the Russians during that war... I'd be interested to know what you make of all that.

Didn't really like his treatment of the Osman Empire prior to the war too much, but then I'd read Caroline Finkel's Osman's Dream only a few months earlier, which obviously went into a lot more detail and depth.

Hm. I might give that a try, then, despite being even less of a fan of Le Rouge et le Noir than you. *NM* - 12/09/2012 09:56:50 PM 227 Views
Sounds like you'd be the only one. This review went over like a fart in church. *NM* - 12/09/2012 11:20:23 PM 263 Views

I didn't notice that one. Did you post it last week or the week before? - 13/09/2012 07:42:11 PM 543 Views
