I agree (all but the Bar-Sur-Aube I've read in the original language, with translations to help) Larry Send a noteboard - 23/12/2012 05:16:04 PM
I do keep looking for La Chanson de Roland in the Old French in hardcover and can't find it anywhere. There was one old one that amazon.fr wouldn't ship outside Europe because it was through their marketplace, and then that one disappeared. I found a crappy paperback version in lots of places, but I'm not going to buy that. Pléiade doesn't even sell one. I was able to get Chretien de Troyes, Livre du Graal (3 volumes) and Tristan et Yseult, but not that.

As you know, I have no problems with reading them on my iPad if available and frustratingly enough, La Chanson de Roland isn't available anywhere I searched as an e-book (translations don't count; already had one from my college days). I had to resort to reading it in sections from a website in order to read it. Old French reminds me of Catalan for some reason. I can understand the majority of it without help, but the forms are amusing to me more than frustrating.

Have most of the de Troyes in cheap paperback, but that'll await 2013 or later before I read them.

From the aesthetic point of view I think that Ariosto is recognized as the best. - 23/12/2012 02:54:43 PM 1147 Views

Since it's a short book I might just buy a paperback and hope Dumbarton Oaks issues a hardcover. - 23/12/2012 07:29:52 PM 1059 Views
