My suggestion would be Thief-Taker's Apprentice by Stephen Deas. It is listed as a young adult fantasy, probably for the initial age of the main character, but it is dark enough, especially in the later 2 books, for it to be considered for more general fantasy readers.
Written between 2010 and 2012.
