I thought RJ & LSD were the best at capturing Howard's vision, though Jordan's writing was different Cannoli Send a noteboard - 13/10/2009 12:51:38 PM

I think I had all of the Jordan Conan books and they were all paint by numbers kind of thing, a little like what happened to Dragonlance and Forgotten Relms

Personally Conan the Barbarian is the best book regarding that world and everything else was pretty much milking the franchise (for lack of better term)

While most of the Conan books I have read were enjoyable, I have read most of the Sprague de Ccamp books as well, most lack substance and are just good at filling in time

I read all of Jordan's & Howard's Conan writings, and IMO, they are the best, though Howard's style is a bit dated. Still, it reads like Edgar Rice Burroughs, so it is enjoyable anyway. I did not read as much of DeCamp's work, but I thought he came closer to Howard than any other writer. Interestingly, Howard's Conan works have the least sex, and IIRC, Jordan & DeCamp had the most of any pastiche authors.
