It feels nothing like HP, and I don't think that's just because we experience Harry's story with him rather than through him.
Perhaps because it's not set in a British Boarding School, which always feel nice in some way no matter how bad the events. The University is a rather unpleasant place, all in all.
Yes, Hogwarts is love.^_^
Part of the reason I don't like anything being compared to Harry Potter is that we start out with them as little children and they are unbeliveably adorable at first, playing in a relatively innocent series of classes and whatnot. JKR did a great job of instilling that warm sense in the story, and it has been strengthened through the movies- it doesn't feel fair to compare other books to that... er, something that makes them more than just books. Especially not when we're just starting.
November Book Club is now open! The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

It's almost as if the author decided there needed to be a little adventure to move the story along.

The book has been compared with Harry Potter. Do you think this is fair? Why/why not? *NM*

I really couldn't say whether it was fair. Seems a weird judgement to me.
