Oh. jh Send a noteboard - 02/01/2010 11:19:25 AM
1 Steph Swainston - The Modern World

2 Janny Wurts - Stormed fortress

23 Valerio Massimo Manfredi - Child of a Dream

24 Valerio Massimo Manfredi - Sands of Ammon

26 Matthew Woodring Stover - Blade of Tyshalle

27 Valerio Massimo Manfredi - Ends of the Earth

35 Michael Scott - The Alchemyst

37 Matt Stover - Caine Black Knife

38 Dave Duncan - Lord of the Fire Lands

39 Gene Wolfe - The Fifth Head of Cerberus

47 Dave Duncan - Sky of Swords

48 Mary Gentle - 1610: A Sundial in a Grave

49 Steven Erikson - Bauchelain and Krobal Broach

51 Imre Kertész - Fateless

I think I read more books last year, but they go in under requirements, and not pleasure :P

Ok, so of these titles, which did you like best and why? Are Erikson's or Wolfe's part of a series? What about all the Glen Cook ones?

Actually, they are all more or less of equal quality, excepting the duncan books which are just not very good. Problem is that it is actually most dependent on the way you prefer your reading. And the erikson one is a collection of 3 novellas loosely related to his Malazan book of the fallen series. The Wolfe... no, I don't think there is more to it than the book itself, but it also contains a few different stories with some sort of tie ins. The cook books... IIRC, they were all Garret PI books, pretty quick reads, just for enjoyment.

Perhaps if I were to name one of the books as one you'd prefer, I'd go with 1610: A sundial in a grave.

The manfredi books were about alexander the great, btw, historical fiction.
