A couple suggestions: (edit) Jacob Send a noteboard - 12/01/2010 05:51:35 PM
R. Scott Bakker: The Prince of Nothing Trilogy (The Darkness that Comes Before is the first book... series is complete), The Judging Eye (first book in the Aspect-Emperor series). Bakker is just something different. He is very focused on character but still has great story and world building.

Ken Scholes: Lamentation, Canticle (books 1 and 2 of the Psalms of Isaak... book three will be out very soon). Scholes is a great new author, and I've really enjoyed the two books in his debut series.

Peter V. Brett: The Warded Man (a different take on some fantasy ideas), the second book of the series is set to come out in a couple months.

Brandon Sanderson: Completely agree with Gher. I just enjoy what the man writes. Mistborn is a great trilogy. Warbreaker is a very entertaining stand alone novel. Elantris, his debut, is a truly great idea and a good read, though it does have some rough parts.

Guy Gavriel Kay: Tigana, Lions of al-Rassan... Kay is simply one of the best writers of fantasy there is. These are two of my favorite books in the fantasy genre.
