The book was too much cookie-cutter fantasy for me. Excellently written cookie-cutter, yes, but it just seemed to lack originality and that little bit of uniqueness that would have made it different. Maybe it's because the first book was supposed to be part 1 of a single book and the other two will be much more original.

However, Patrick Rothfuss is a very good writer and the Name of the Wind is brilliantly written for a debut book. I hope he keeps up to his writing standards. It's like the inverse of what I was mentioning about Brandon Sanderson in another thread. Brandon's stories were better than his writing capabilities while for Rothfuss, it's the opposite.
