One can't combat ideas that one doesn't understand (part of the reason Sarah Palin is so useless).

I have to admit I don't understand the obsession with JD Salinger. He wrote, essentially, one book of note and for some reason it's taught in schools. What that reason is escapes me.

Of course, I'd put the Brontes on the list well above him or nearly anyone else.
