Since most of the names mentioned elsewhere are unfamiliar to me, that seems logical. Legolas Send a noteboard - 11/02/2010 09:33:12 PM

Japanese books about a bear? You aren't talking about Corderouy are you?

Thank you :)
Teresa

As far as I'm aware, none of the authors I mentioned are American, except Peter Spier (Dutch-American, but still) and Hinton. Most are British, Schubert is German, Lindgren is of course Swedish, Denou is Catalan it would appear, Bell is Canadian and Kuratomi Japanese. Several of those translated ones seem like they'd be hard to find in English, with Amazon only having a few second-hand copies of a few books of the series. The Japanese books about a bear, no, I don't believe so - I obviously never read them in English, but the English name of the bear as far as I can tell is simply "Mr. Bear". It's about a bear living in a rabbit town, and the drawing style is rather special - enter "Mr Bear Kuratomi" in Google Image search and you'll see what I mean.

Oh, by the way, since I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet but I'm fairly sure this one does have truly international renown: James Gurney's Dinotopia.
