But if you are go to read co-written scfi those two are what I would recommend. I actually prefer their co-written work to their solo work. They seem to offset each others weaknesses to some degree. I think there is better scfi out there and I don't think the 70s and 80s were the high water mark for the genre but their stuff is better then most.

Reagan single handedly (along with his faithful side kick Larry Niven) beat the Soviet Union, don't they teach you anything over there ;)
