If enough people who like similar books recommend something I buy it.
If I think it will cover the subjects I'm interested in I may get it.
But most often I just browse the bookstore. I read the description on the cover and when it sounds interesting I sample the chapters. I read something from the beginning, the middle and the end. And then decide if it seems like fun.
