With the first book, she was a new author, but it was also, quite obviously, a book for kids.

6 books later, it's what? About 15 years of writing experience? Add to that, more mature themes.


Maybe she originally wrote the series for kids, and then when it got all popular, she changed her target reader to be older? And then she just got better as well (until the introduction of something so fundamental as the Horcrux having no lead up), and maybe the epilogue (still undecided about that).
